Leadership

Dr. David Sexton has been serving at Elon Baptist Church since January 2011 as the lead pastor.  Born in Baltimore, MD and raised in a military family, he has had the opportunity to live in several different states and spend 5 years in Europe.   David received training at various universities and seminaries and holds advanced degrees in Educational Supervision and Preaching and Teaching (DMin.).  He is also a graduate of the Defense Language Institute (Spanish & Persian Farsi).

He and his wife, Doreen, have four grown children: Dave and his wife Courtney with their four children are ministering at Elon as well as vocationally working in computer programming and data services.   Jonathan and Sara live in Clemmons, NC where they work in separate finance companies and love on their son; Nathan and Michele and three children are serving a church in Ohio; and, Abi with her husband Andy and two daughters are seeing the world enjoying cross-cultural work in North Africa and West Virginia.

Jeremy, came to Elon as a pastoral intern in January 2014 and has stayed on, first serving as a pastoral assistant and now as one of our pastors at Elon.  Jeremy grew up locally and graduated from Appomattox High School.  He has finished his undergraduate studies in Finance and Bible at Liberty University and has Masters  degree from Southeastern Seminary in Wake Forest, NC.

Jeremy is married to Kristin a nurse with Centra, and they have been blessed with two sons, Elijah and Wyatt, and two daughters, Ava and Olive.

Dave Sexton came to Elon in December 2020 to serve a two-year internship with Elon while continuing his education at Rawlings School of Divinity.  Dave, a computer programmer and Courtney, one of our church musicians are proud parents of four children: Katelyn, Adele (Della), Davey, and Clare. 

Susan serves in many different capacities at Elon, including as our administrative assistant. Susan and her husband Bruce are residents of Pamplin City and have attended Elon for many years.  Susan retired as the Media Specialist (Librarian) at Appomattox County Middle School.  She brings her years of educational experience to her Sunday School Class every Sunday as well as coordinates the church's Relay for Life team. Her three grandchildren keep her hopping if she ever gets free time! 

Jane faithfully has served Elon as pianist, choir director and music director for many years.  She recently retired as a Vice President from Farmers Bank which has given her a great background to serve as chairperson of Elon's Finance Committee.  She and Robbie have two adult sons who have provided three loving grandchildren.
