Elon Baptist Church is a confessional, cooperating Southern Baptist church holding to the Baptist Faith and Message as a creed, but with the Bible as its authority in faith and practice.
While many of our members and regular attendees may not be able to articulate all the points of this confession, we understand that these statements of faith are based on the Word of God which is our sole authority, and it is to that end the Scriptures are regularly expounded.
The Bible is God's Holy Word, without error, and is the sole authority for life and is sufficient for all matters of faith and life.
There is one God: The Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit; who subsist in unity, and also as three separate distinct Persons.
Jesus Christ is God's Son. He was born of a virgin as both God and man, lived a sinless life, died to atone for the sins of human beings, was buried, arose from the grave, ascended into heaven and will literally return to earth.
The Holy Spirit is the divine helper, assistant, counselor and instructor and His work is to reveal Christ, convict of sin, lead to repentance, guide believers, comfort, strengthen, and sanctify the soul.
Human beings are the special creations of God, made in His image. They fell through the sin of the first man, Adam, and all human beings are sinners in need of salvation.
Salvation is a gift through repentance toward God and faith in Jesus Christ. Every person who truly is saved is eternally secure in the Lord Jesus Christ and will spend eternity in heaven, while those who die in their sins will spend eternity in hell.
Baptism is by immersion after salvation and is done in obedience to Jesus Christ's command.
Each believer has direct access to God through the Lord Jesus Christ. The church is a local body of baptized believers with the Lord Jesus Christ as the Head.
We believe in the personal, visible and triumphant return of Jesus Christ to the world according to His promise.
Elon Baptist voluntarily cooperates with the Southern Baptist Convention (national), the Southern Baptist Conservatives of Virginia (SBCV state), and the Appomattox Baptist Association (local). It is through these alignments that Elon joins other Southern Baptist churches to support ministries and missions efforts locally, in the state and nation, and throughout the world. To discover more about how these groups and their work please click on their names above or go to the Resources page.
Even though Elon Baptist is aligned with these groups, Southern Baptist churches are considered autonomous units. Each church, under the leadership and guidance of God, makes their own decisions about staff, ministries, budgets, buildings and policies. Elon is supported financially by the tithes and offerings of its members. Each member has a vote and a say in how the church accomplishes its purposes and mission during regular scheduled Member Meetings.
