Dr. David Sexton has been serving at Elon Baptist Church since January 2011 as the teaching pastor.
Born in Baltimore, MD and raised in a military family, he has had the opportunity to live in several different states and spend 5 years in Europe. David received training at various universities and seminaries and holds advanced degrees in Educational Supervision and Preaching and Teaching (DMin.). He is also a graduate of the Defense Language Institute (Persian Farsi and Spanish).
He and his wife, Doreen, have four grown children: Davey and his wife Courtney with their 4 children serve at Calvary Bible Church in Engadine, MI where Davey is the teaching elder; Jonathan lives in Winston-Salem, NC where Jon works in Finance; Nathan and Michele and three children are serving a church in Westerville, Ohio; and, Abi with her husband Andy is seeing the world enjoying cross-cultural work in North Africa.
Jeremy Lakes came to Elon as a pastoral intern in January 2014 and has stayed on, first serving as a pastoral assistant and now as one of our pastors at Elon. He was licensed to preach in December 2015. Jeremy is pursuing an MDiv degree at Southeastern Seminary in Wake Forest, NC.
Jeremy is married to Kristin Lakes, a nurse with Centra, and they have been blessed with a son Elijah and two daughters Ava and Olive.
Susan Williams serves in many different capacities at Elon, including as our administrative assistant. Susan and her husband Bruce are residents of Pamplin City and have attended Elon for many years. Susan's other job is the Media Specialist (Librarian) at Appomattox County Middle School. She brings her years of educational experience to the Young Elementary Sunday School Class every Sunday as well as coordinates the church's Relay for Life team. Her two grandsons keep her hopping if she ever gets free time!
